Blind Date – The Aftermath – 10 minute comedy: when the date’s over, is it?

10 minute comedy

BLIND DATE – THE AFTERMATH – 10 MINUTE COMEDY. WHEN THE DATE’S OVER, IS IT?

Dr Stanley and Alice Adler have been on a blind date with each other and have returned to their respective apartments. Now, it is true that people who have been single for a while tend to have relatively high standards in the people they date. Film star looks and a sparkling personality to match wouldn’t go amiss at all in this 10 minute comedy!

After the initial feeling that perhaps the person they just dated wasn’t really the film star they had hoped for, and having been brought down to a rather ordinary earth with a bump, both Alice and Stanley decide that, actually, a second date wouldn’t be so bad. Pity that Alice ignored the phone when it rang earlier…

A SMART ALEC AND TWO IDIOTS WALK INTO A CLOSET – COMEDY SCRIPT FOR STUDENTS

In A Smart-Alec and Two Idiots Walk into a Closet, a comedy, Connie, Lewis and Shawn find themselves locked in the school janitor’s closet and it ain’t The Chronicles of Narnia, man. Before Connie and Lewis freak out anymore, Shawn takes matters into his own hands and sprays them with some bleach, to get them to ‘’cool down’’. In one act, things go from bad to mildly worse when Lewis faints (or pretends to?) after he finds out what he was sprayed with. Connie tries to save him, a kiss doesn’t happen, they all almost die, hope is lost then found again and as they keep waiting for someone to unlock the door, they realise that freedom isn’t really free at all.

In a closet, the possibilities are endless….

TEMP WORK – TEN MINUTE COMEDY ABOUT A SLEAZY BOSS

It’s not easy waking up to make another man’s dreams come true. For Emily she has the optimism that comes with youth so she’s trying to make the best of the job. Beverly has been at it long enough that she’s started dying slowly every minute and Alicia has been there the longest so she knows that to get through the day’s work involves a fair amount of lying in this ten minute comedy about a sleazy boss.

The women have an uphill battle and making nice with Glavin is exactly what they should not be doing. In Temp Work everyone is losing the rat race and it seems no one cares to really compete.

TWO COUSINS AND A PIZZA – TEN MINUTE AMERICAN PLAY

In ”Two Cousins and a Pizza” Mikey’s in town from Chicago and for Johnny, it’s just like old times. There’s nothin’ like grabbing a good, old fashioned New York City pizza and for the cousins, there’s no question that Chi-town don’t cut it in this regard. New York City pizzas are in a league of their own and that’s a fact that even a non-native would understand well. From the texture of the dough (thanks to the city’s water) to the 45cm diameter slice; it’s authentic, it’s simple and it’s New York, baby!

So when Johnny’s cousin starts tucking into his slice with knife and fork in hand, it’s not a problem, it’s a catastrophe! How dare he? In this ten minute American play, Johnny attempts to rehabilitate Mikey so that he can snap out of it and use his God-given hands to enjoy a meal meant to be relished the only way it can (according to Johnny).

If you take the boy outta New York, well maybe then…. he shouldn’t come back.

THE RIGHT APPROACH – TEN MINUTE COMEDY FOR THREE ACTORS ABOUT A BROTHEL

In this ten minute comedy for three actors, young Eve, who has been working in the same position for the past few years (mostly on her back, but some clients do like a bit of variety) plucks up courage and asks for a promotion from her boss. The only thing is, Eve feels that she hasn’t been challenged at all in her current position and is looking for an opportunity to prove she’s worth the promotion.

Enter Eve’s latest customer, who swears he isn’t going to pay because….he just wasn’t satisfied!! Although Eve finds this hard to swallow, she hardens her resolve, puts her head down and insists that he pay his dues. When her boss threatens to call the police and her now confessed dead broke client bursts into tears, it’s up to Eve to come up with a solution for everybody.

A fun comedy that alludes to what the nature of the business is without ever saying so in so many words.

A HOUSE OF DOLLS – SCRIPT ABOUT A CRAZY FAMILY

In this script about a crazy family, Delilah, a young girl studying at college makes a big mistake by inviting her study partner (who just happens to be a boy) round to her house to study together.

Now the females in Delilah’s family, the ‘Austen girls’ are basically made up of women who in their own words “Love men who then break their hearts and leave them!” Besides this tragic characteristic, they all share another – they are beautifully made up and very concerned with their appearances to the point where Delilah’s granny, mother and sister all look very similar, like dolls even. Their world is an old fashioned one – titivate yourself, meet the man of your dreams and get married. That’s what the Austen women do. The fact that Delilah is a physics major baffles them and the fact that she doesn’t want to take over the family hairdressing salon is equally puzzling.

But the real problem for them is that Delilah seems to be making no effort to catch a man. So when she actually brings one round to the house, Heaven help him!

THE MIRROR – A COLLECTION OF TEN MINUTE PLAYS

Intended as an evening of dinner theatre or for a charity performance, this collection of ten minute plays combines six stories which are linked by a common theme: A mirror. Old, tarnished and apparently priceless. We follow the journey of the mirror through the evening. From the burglary where the burglar steals it for his wife, to the thrift shop where the wife (who never really liked it anyway) dumped it, to the purchase of the mirror by a rich old lady, certain of its value and antiquity. The old lady passes away and then the mirror gets bought from her estate by a young girl. We then see the mirror in the girl’s apartment, in a shop front window at a travel agent and finally getting sold by two homeless people who are convinced they’ve just pulled off the biggest scam of their lives.

TWO CATS, NO DOGS! TEN MINUTE ROMANTIC PLAYS

In this award winning romantic comedy script, a man and a woman find themselves at an art gallery, viewing a red (very red) painting. They get chatting to each other and, superimposed on their ‘chit chat’ are their thoughts – that they really and truly like each other and wish that the other would like them back. Their personal thoughts also intrude on what they’re trying to say to each other which leads to the sort of stuttering that happens when people are trying to impress each other. A lovely, funny two-hander script for one man and one woman of any age.

“Putting on a theatre performance is always a risky business. You don’t know whether the audience will turn off the telly and risk the chance of a waster evening. Mouthpiece Productions remedies this by taking theatre to the people. And if has certainly deliver the goods with its latest festival offering – Ugly Art… The show was a treat – a performance of this quality is worth traveling to watch. The show was light accessible and above all, very entertaining.

“Three large canvases (blue, yellow and green) one bench and a small table displaying several wine glasses set the stage for “Ugly Art,” written by last year’s South Carolina playwright’s winner Terry Roueche… The play itself is sophisticated dialogue, evoking laughter through seven vignettes that explore a variety of topics – marriage, control, snobbery, fidelity and artistic talk…
