Blind Date – The Aftermath – 10 minute comedy: when the date’s over, is it?

10 minute comedy

BLIND DATE – THE AFTERMATH – 10 MINUTE COMEDY. WHEN THE DATE’S OVER, IS IT?

Dr Stanley and Alice Adler have been on a blind date with each other and have returned to their respective apartments. Now, it is true that people who have been single for a while tend to have relatively high standards in the people they date. Film star looks and a sparkling personality to match wouldn’t go amiss at all in this 10 minute comedy!

After the initial feeling that perhaps the person they just dated wasn’t really the film star they had hoped for, and having been brought down to a rather ordinary earth with a bump, both Alice and Stanley decide that, actually, a second date wouldn’t be so bad. Pity that Alice ignored the phone when it rang earlier…

Ages of the actors: Both thirties up (or older) adults

The rooms are separated by an imaginary wall which includes a full-length mirror (empty of glass) that both characters can use simultaneously. There is a smaller, freestanding make-up mirror on the tabletop. The man’s room contains a dresser and a sink with similar mirrors. Both rooms are dark with light shining from the outer room when the bedroom door is opened.

Level of difficulty: 6/10 – a fun script with simple dialogue. It’s all about the angst!

BLIND DATE – ONE ACT COMEDY FOR TWO ACTORS

In one hysterical act, a man and woman each get ready for a date with one another, while contemplating the night ahead. Both divorced, Stanley Kramer (a doctor) and Alice Adler (who works in medical research) have been set up on a blind date by their friends and it’s hardly a boring evening of preparation. We get the perspective of each suitor as they ready themselves for a night of ‘putting on’. ‘Putting on’ the charm and ‘putting on’ the confidence. Basically: Putting on a show. In “Blind Date” it’s all about the potential that comes with meeting someone new and how stressful that really is in this one act comedy for two actors.

If dying alone is the other alternative may the blind dates keep on coming!
