PLAY FOR TEENS

A SNITCH IN TIME – TIME TRAVELLING SCRIPT FOR TEENS

“My name is May. I was born not far from here. It wasn’t that long ago. Maybe you’ve seen me around? But then again, you probably haven’t. Why? Well, officially, I don’t exist. You could call me invisible, in a way.  For want of a better word. And ironically, you’d be right.”

When May accidentally discovers she can see hidden time travellers, and rescues Anne Frank who has been brought to our time, she is immediately recruited to “The Agency” – the top secret government agency that controls time travel. Her mission: To go back in time and  alter events or retrieve famous people who otherwise would have died. From JFK to Anne Boleyn, to Nazi Germany – it all turns out well. Until it doesn’t. When May and her partner, Roger return with Anne Boleyn, the world has changed. A leak in time has occurred – one that forever alters the fabric of reality. The Nazi’s won.

They’re the only ones that know the truth. And they’re the only ones who can do anything about it in this script for teens.  A great play for drama class or play for youth theatre.

Read other plays by playwright Claire Demmer – The Rat Trap – a comic farce involving a greedy family, a dying old man and a ‘priceless’ work of art!

Author: Claire Linda Demmer

Genre: Comedy, adventure, script for teens

Type: Two-act play

Cast: Total thirty actors. Speaking roles: 13-14M, 8-9F.  Certain roles are less gender specific, for example, Nazi’s could be either male or female.

Ages of the actors: Teen up

Suitable for: All ages to watch and perform

Length: Two hours

Set: The stage is divided into three areas – the main stage, a platform to the front of the stage and another platform to the right or left of it. The main area and the platform downstage have scene changes whereas the platform to the side is always the main office of headquarters with a number of desks behind which sit the workers typing away and answering phones. A map of the world is on the wall behind the office. The Nazi flag is hung there as well during the second act. Scene changes in the other two areas remain simple and occur during other scenes to allow the play to flow. The ‘time field’ can be created using lighting and sound effects, or even basic LED lights switched on and off.

Level of difficulty: 7/10 – Effects, scenery and costumes. As they travel all through time, the main actors do have some costume and scene changes but these are also really fun for the players as well!

RONNIE THE FIRD – SCHOOL DRAMA SET IN 1960’S ENGLAND

Meet Ronnie Mills, a street wise Londoner, aged 16 years, whose parents were killed in a motor car accident. Ronnie is sent to Wetherley College, a prestigious public school in in the South of England by his wealthy grandfather. Ronnie develops a love for history and  The Plantagenet kings, particularly Richard III. The students pick up on Ronnie’s interest and nickname him ‘Ronnie the Fird’ (partly using his vernacular) in this school drama set in 1960’s England.

Unfortunately, Ronnie soon becomes the target of the school bully, Henry Henderson, the son of a wealthy army officer and a benefactor of the college. When Ronnie stands up to him, Henderson seeks revenge and Ronnie is involved in a series of confrontations with Henderson and his cohorts. The situation culminates in Ronnie’s friend Jamieson supposedly ‘falling’ from a balcony and  being admitted to hospital in a coma.

Unfortunately no evidence is found against the alleged bullies, who were cleverly disguised, and no evidence of an attack was found on Jamieson’s body. However, a knife discovered close to the place where Jamieson fell reveals its owner as a member of Henderson’s gang and Ronnie helps to solve the problem and expose the members of the gang.

THE WILTING PRESS – TWENTY MINUTE PLAY ABOUT LIFE AND HELPING OTHERS

Imagine if you had a problem, one that you couldn’t find a solution to. You don’t want to ‘look for help’ at this stage, preferring to try to sort it out yourself. What if you then went for a walk in the park?  On a bench a Wanderer jovially sits with a tattered book in this twenty minute play. The book is a wilting flower press full of the wanderer’s memories.  You sit down. You talk about love, family, life, and what it means to have a conversation that matters.

Three strangers encounter the Wanderer. Burdened by their respective circumstances, each Stranger shares their time and woes with the Wanderer, hoping to move forward.  And so the Wanderer, armed with words and a wilting press, mends these disillusioned hearts with one phrase: “Care to share your troubles?”

The wanderer asks only for a flower for their press from each stranger in return.  Will we ever find out why the Wanderer helps these people? Perhaps not. But maybe that isn’t important.

THE PENDRAGON SACRIFICE – AWARD WINNING PLAY ABOUT MERLIN AND KING ARTHUR

So it is in the reimagining of the adventures of Merlin and his motley crew, that an evil too ghastly to imagine rears its head and must be done away with.   In this one act drama, Arthur of Legend, his brother Marcus, Gwenivere and a band that only Merlin could come up with have one task: to defeat the darkness before it has its chance of setting in in this award winning play about Merlin and King Arthur. Some will die; let them. Some will live; may they live forever…

The evil that descends into the hearts of men is both from and becomes the world. Merlin has witnessed it and can never forget it; it would be unwise for him to even try to.

This show was produced by E.A. Laney High School in October of 2014. It was our competition piece and won awards for best fight choreography, Outstanding Director, and best actress.

THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE – SOUTH AFRICAN PLAY FOR SCHOOLS

All the girls at the local girl’s high school are excited to see who’ll be the next head girl and who’ll be a prefect.  There’s the girl who thinks it should be her. Obviously. And the girl who has recently turned over a new leaf and desperately wants to be elected but who has a troubled past. And then there’s the matter of race.  Some girls feel that because last year’s head girl was white, a girl of colour should get the vote this year.    Voting for the head girl starts today and it’s going to be tricky in this South African play for schools…

“Imagine if everyone voted objectively; not because they have a grudge, or because of skin colour, or something that happened in the past. But, instead, they all vote because of the good that the girl could do. They vote for the person who shows the most honesty, integrity, fairness and impartiality. Can you imagine? Then the teachers couldn’t ignore us, because we made a good, solid choice together. That would be cool.”

The pupils all vote for the girl they think are the best choice, but in the end, do the teachers get a say?
