WHERE THERE’S A WILL, THERE’S A PLAY – FUNNY CONTEMPORARY SHAKESPEARE
Set in the Forest of Arden in Jacobean times, this funny contemporary Shakespeare play explores what could have been the inspiration for one of William Shakespeare’s most widely performed comedies As You Like It. We follow Will, a talented and renowned playwright as he enters the forest of Arden, seeking a cure for his writer’s block. Will meets a Fool in the forest who guides him through it and helps him start to write.
One woman in her time may play many parts. Enter: Ursula, disguised as a young boy, with her uncle as they try and find her father, Ralph, who is convinced he is the rightful Duke! Will and the Fool help Ursula, in exchange they agree that Will may dramatize the events. With many references to Shakespeare’s life — ahem Nick Mallow, other references include his other plays wonderfully woven through including Macbeth, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and more, this comedy has it all!
Ralph’s belief that he is the rightful Duke does not sit well with the current Duke, Edwin. We meet other characters in the Forest of Arden, Artisan Actors and Weird Sisters to boot! As we uncover the truth of Ralph’s delusion in a wild court scene all the people of the Forest inadvertently play their parts in a prophecy tied into a conspiracy!. After all fact doth keep strange maintenance above fiction…
