Description
THE BABY – A ONE ACT PERIOD DRAMA ABOUT A PREGNANCY
Klara is pregnant. Again. This will make the fifth time she has been pregnant and not once has she managed to bring a child into this world. All the others passed away before they could even be born. But this time, she hopes and prays it will be different. Her husband, Alois, is a lot older than she is and it isn’t his first marriage. Moving from one women to the next, he quickly tires of them, especially when he deems them useless, like Klara, who cannot do the one thing he wanted her for. To produce a baby. And so he drinks to pass the time, often with his friend Wolfgang. But even Wolfgang, his best friend, feels that the way he treats Klara isn’t right. Her Doctor advises that she go into hospital in the last month, to keep the baby safe after she admits to him that Alois can be a bit rough with her at times, when he has been drinking. But all three of them: Klara, Dr Grueber and Alois all agree. This time the baby must live. And they’ll do their utmost to make sure that happens in this one act period drama.
