FRIED GRITS – A PLAY ABOUT DOMESTIC ABUSE
In this two-act dramatic play about domestic abuse, three friends – Don, Mike and Joe sit down at their usual spot for breakfast at Ollie’s Diner. The men realise that their young waitress Monica is distressed and has some bruises on her. These men soon put things together and discover that Monica is being abused by her live-in boyfriend George. George is easily threatened, and he is more than physically domineering – he controls many aspects of Monica’s life. Don enlists his wife Joan’s help, who brings in Charlene, a psychologist who has experience with this kind of thing. Soon these two women slowly befriend Monica. This starts off a chain events that changes both Monica’s and her patron’s lives from Ollie’s Diner forever.

◦ Entrance Door – may have frosted glass with “OLLIES DINER” facing outward.
◦ An escape to the kitchen, remainder of the diner and rear exit.
Level of Difficulty: 7/10 – playing a character that has experienced trauma believably especially if you have never had similar trauma in the past
