EMPATHY – A SERIES OF FEMALE MONOLOGUES CELEBRATING WOMEN’S VOICES
Empathy is a collection of dramatic female monologues for all ages. Each monologue speaks of the experiences of women and is spoken by women, dealing with events and issues that have affected their lives. From the death of a grandparent, teen issues like fitting in, writing SAT’s, to a miscarriage, wedding jitters, domestic violence, women’s achievements, lecherous bosses, homesickness, high school reunions, going home again, marriage and divorce, marriage proposals, the inevitability of death, senior dating, the loss of a child, old versus young and growing older with a lifetime of memories. A great collection of monologues for women of all ages, perfect for drama school audtions to play reading groups. Girls – you’ll love them.
Vin Morreale with Empathy is the Winner of the Pleiades Theatre Stars Of The Future New Play Festival.
The play requires a flexible stage, minimal set pieces, and from 6 to 10 extremely talented actresses. The cast should be versatile enough to play several characters, varying in age, temperament and life challenges. Only one monologue is ethnic-specific, so directors should feel free to cast according to the strength of the performer, rather than the look or ethnicity of the actress. One option is to have all actresses remain on stage, so the monologues easily flow into the next, with only lighting and props to create the transition.
