Description
THE ROSES OF OSHIRO VILLAGE – LARGE CAST PLAY FOR HIGH SCHOOL (Digital Script)
In a small village called Oshiro, Nakamura, his daughter Aisareta and four other girls from the village are trained in martial arts. One day their lives are shattered as their village is destroyed on the orders of Nekuromansa in this large cast play for high school. But just who are the Nekurumonsa? Well, to answer you, they include the following evil characters:
The Necromancer
The Pale hand of death
The Demon
Ying and Yang (Light and Dark) and
The Zombie
The destruction of the village achieves what the Nekuromansa want – setting off a decade of fighting but at the same time inadvertently starts everyone on a journey to fulfil an ancient prophecy. When Nakamura dies, the girls set out to revenge the destruction of their village. The girls are known as the Roses of Oshiro Village, with each girl having her own colour and set of unique skills and talents. To avenge the destruction of their village they will need to fight these villains, both dead and alive. Each girl is tested and they end up on very different paths. But will they come together in the end, when unity is needed to defeat them once and for all?
A supernatural adventure that is perfect for a large ensemble of 20 actors – 10 men and 10 women. The chronological jumps add to the mystery as we piece together the events of the past and present to make out what will happen to the girls and the person who has the power to corrupt souls.
PRODUCTION NOTE:
This play is performed out of sequence, as the story unfolds in a non-linear fashion a la Quentin Tarantino. For our run, we had a TV in our theatre that would show the timeline for audience ease. For example, when the show was ten years in the past the screen would read “Ten Years before the Death of Nakamura.” Everything was based off the timeline of his death. Also, while this show most certainly has a Japanese flavor, it does not need to be portrayed with accents or by Asian born actors.
