ONCE UPON A TERM – PLAY FOR CHILDREN (Ages 5 to 12)

From the Desk of Hildigrim, Queen Fairy of all Dark Deeds, of Bountiful Beauty and Bossiness, Squelcher of Squabs and Squibs, Most high Leader of all things Monstrous……”

“To the pure-hearted students of this school…”

“You have probably noticed that your School Spirit has been missing of late…”

“I took it.”

It was true. Their school spirit had indeed been stolen by Hildigrim and nothing would ever be the same again. So the students set out to get it back. To do this they would have to travel to the world of the fairies and just complete one itsy bitsy task. Or so Hildigrim said. As the tasks get piled on, the girls start to wonder if she ever intended to return it. Or if there was a way to defeat her and get it back once and for all in this play for children.

Note from the author:

Each scene is written for a specific grade.
The main characters would be played by Grade sevens, and some Grade sixes if they are right for the parts.
Grade ones are the mushrooms and Grade twos are the mushroom fairies.
Grade threes are the fairies in Hildegrim’s court.
Grade fours are the Selkies
Grade fives are the Gemstones
Grade sixes are the Kelpies
The rest of the Grade sevens are in the scene (Scene seven) with the fairy tale characters.

The play is written as a straight play with suggestions where music can be inserted at the director’s discretion. It was originally written for a cast of all girls, but can be adapted for for both genders.
