Description
THE FUN DOCTOR – LARGE CAST COMEDY WITH MUSIC
Meet the Fun Doctor, a magical, mystical man who encourages the local Community to jive in the streets and to have a fabulous time! For example, the huge carnival that local twelve year old prankster, Ronnie swears was just a few streets away. Now this carnival happened after Ronnie encountered the Doctor himself. Unfortunately, for him, Ronnie is the boy who cried wolf, the cook who denied burning the toast, the plumber who can’t explain the clog in the toilet in this rock and roll comedy with music.
Poor kid. He’s just bored. Not much to do around here but go to school, donate to the fair, find a stash of diamonds and- Oh, yes! The diamonds! In this three act comedy a little spice is added to the cauldron when Mr. Jenks (the local jeweler) is accused of taking a consignment of diamonds. Of course all roads end up leading to Ronnie. He practically dragged himself into the hoopla taking Dave and Billy out into the deep waters with him. How could you blame him though? What would you do if you overheard some chatter about the location of nature’s most precious gifts. That’s not for you to answer though. Leave it to the Fun Doctor. He isn’t here for his own health!
Woven between the day to day happenings of the seaside community and the social buzz at The Pink Elephant Milk Bar is an intriguing story of smuggling involving unlikely local residents, including the Deputy Mayor, teenagers and, unwittingly, older schoolchildren. It also contains humour, rock ‘n roll singing and dancing, a street carnival, magic, romance, corruption and heroism, which all add up to a fun show!
The original production was dedicated to the memory of Norman Tate M.B.E., the original ‘Fun Doctor’ who entertained thousands of New Zealand school children over a period of fifty years. He was awarded the M.B.E. for his outstanding services in 1959. His last venue was at the old Devonport School in 1961.
