THE COMFORT OF CONCRETE – ONE ACT FAMILY DRAMA ABOUT A MISSING DAUGHTER, PRESUMED DEAD
Josephine, (or Jo as she is known to her family) and her husband Michael have two daughters, Bridget the younger one and Valerie, who has been missing for two years after a boating accident. Josephine has never given up hope that one day Valerie will be found alive and well. The family has its set of problems, mostly around money and everyone is, well a little fragile generally. When Michael takes Bridget to a friend’s house, leaving Jo at home alone in a storm, she receives an unexpected visitor – her missing daughter Valerie. Has Valerie really returned after being missing all this time? Or is the truth that she never will… A one act family drama about a missing daughter.

Set: A working class family’s kitchen. A door is located up center stage. A window frame hangs to the side of the door that shows a glimpse of fall outside. Center stage is a small kitchen table with two chairs. Down stage left is a kitchen island table. The island has a few dishes piled up and ready to be cleaned and put away, a stack of mail made up mostly of credit card offers and coupons, as well as a statue of the Virgin Mary facing towards the audience. Offstage right is the doorway to the rest of the house.
Level of difficulty: 6/10 – an easy drama script for drama students
