STAIRWAYS TO HEAVEN – DRAMA FOR THREE ACTORS

Agnes Prescott, 53 is and has been confined to her bedroom for the past seven years as multiple sclerosis slowly erodes her body. All she has for company is her cat, Lulu, her nurse, Bella and her husband, Colin. Lulu has lost a leg in a war with a rat and is to Agnes, almost an extension of her own suffering, as they pass the time together. For Colin has fallen out of love with Agnes and is now besotted with Bella. They plan to wed, if only Agnes wasn’t in the way. Today Bella gives Colin an ultimatum – he has to give Agnes the news and let her know once and for all that there’s going to be a new Mrs Prescott in the house. A drama for three actors.

Set: Split stage – The stage is divided in two diagonally. The rear part is occupied by Agnes’ bedroom, (brightly lit); the front part is a sitting room (in semidarkness). Time: evening.

Level of difficulty: 6/10 – this drama may come across as easy to play as the words are straight forward, as are the emotions, but subtle nuances in acting will elevate this script and make it far more three dimensional
