Becoming Strangers – Dark Comedy for Five Actors

$5.50

Sometimes it’s the things that are furthest from you that teach you the most about yourself. A vacation is just what Howard and Jane needed: a quaint cabin in the woods, fresh air, and some quality time by the lake to escape their hectic city lives. But they get a little more than they bargained for when their car breaks down right outside the cabin of Duke, Betsy, and their father, affectionately known as “Pa”. At first, it’s the perfect mountain getaway, and Howard and
Jane learn a lot from their simple hosts, even making gifts of their material possessions that, in this unadorned setting, now seem unnecessary in this dark comedy for five actors.

BECOMING STRANGERS – A DARK COMEDY FOR FIVE ACTORS

But as the days pass, Duke, Betsy and Pa’s increasingly odd behavior starts to raise some serious questions in Jane’s mind. She voices her concerns to Howard, but he’s become too infatuated with the plain, country lifestyle to listen. In the end, he makes the startling
announcement that he and Duke have made a “trade”; Howard and Jane will be staying in the cabin permanently while Duke and Betsy head for the city. However, as astonishing as it sounds, all parties seem to accept that this change might be the only thing that will move their troubled pasts forward.
