Not Your Usual Tales is a collection of one act horror plays, five in total, each of which has only four characters or less, that aren’t likely to be found in most of the play selections available. These are unusual plays that range from a young man contemplating suicide that is remarkably humorous considering the subject matter, to a monster in the basement, to a teenage girl put to a test by a Biblical being, to a family in a post apocalyptic world, to a couple carrying out a role play that goes a tad too far. They may be produced separately or as an evening of entertain- ment with an intermission in between, so the audience may talk about these unusual tales and their subject matter which I guarantee will encourage conversation afterwards. Julie, Mike, James, Roger, and Sidney have a secret club. And not the usual book club or wine-tasting club you might expect a nice group of sixty-somethings to belong to. Nope. This one is called “The Exit Strategy Club”, and its monthly meetings are held to discuss everyone’s end of life plans. Sooner or later, they know they’re all going to die, and everyone wants it to be on their own terms.
Unbeknownst to the rest of the group, recently-divorced Sidney has decided that their Christmas meeting is the perfect time to put his own exit strategy into action. He plans to lace his drink with an overdose of sleeping pills, and die peacefully, surrounded by his friends. Unfortunately, Julie has invited a newcomer (a veterinarian named Lee) to the group, with the hope of setting her up with Sidney (or at the very least to help him get a new dog, since he lost his in the divorce). Sidney’s drugged drink accidentally gets switched with Lee’s, setting off a darkly comic chain of events – with musical theatre backing ably supplied by Broadway-loving couple Roger and James.
A dark comedy about death and (almost) dying.

In a twist on the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, we’re reintroduced to Doctor Henry Jekyll, a man whose mission to find his own truth, results in ghastly consequences. In, In Hyding, a drama in three acts, Dr. Jekyll is committed to his research above anything else, including his father. Their relationship was killed years ago at the hands of the despicable Jekyll senior himself. Shockingly, his last will states that his entire estate be handed to his son. And Henry certainly makes use of it when he employs a female assistant, one Edwina Hyde, for the purposes of his master work: an elixir that identifies and separates the good part and the evil parts of one’s soul in this alternate Jekyll and Hyde Screenplay.
