The Wilting Press – play about a helpful stranger

$7.50

Imagine if you had a problem, one that you couldn’t find a solution to. You don’t want to ‘look for help’ at this stage, preferring to try to sort it out yourself. What if you then went for a walk in the park and encountered a kindly stranger who helped you and only asked for a flower in return? Four people find exactly that. And all they need to do is give one flower, to be pressed as a memory to the stranger. Will we ever find out why the stranger helps these people? Perhaps not. But maybe that isn’t important in this ten minute play about life and helping others.

THE WILTING PRESS – TWENTY MINUTE PLAY ABOUT A HELPFUL STRANGER

Imagine if you had a problem, one that you couldn’t find a solution to. You don’t want to ‘look for help’ at this stage, preferring to try to sort it out yourself. What if you then went for a walk in the park?  On a bench a Wanderer jovially sits with a tattered book in this twenty minute play. The book is a wilting flower press full of the wanderer’s memories.  You sit down. You talk about love, family, life, and what it means to have a conversation that matters in this play about a helpful stranger.

Three strangers encounter the Wanderer. Burdened by their respective circumstances, each Stranger shares their time and woes with the Wanderer, hoping to move forward.  And so the Wanderer, armed with words and a wilting press, mends these disillusioned hearts with one phrase: “Care to share your troubles?”

The wanderer asks only for a flower for their press from each stranger in return.  Will we ever find out why the Wanderer helps these people? Perhaps not. But maybe that isn’t important.
