THE WATCH BELOW – ONE ACT PERIOD PLAY SET ON A NAVAL TANKER IN 1960

It’s a typical American Navy Tanker in the 1960’s, where all the men have been cooped up for months. Now they’re anchored off the coast of Jamaica, officially for a top secret government meeting. Tensions and tempers are running high, a man is missing after attacking another with a knife and another ill with a mysterious disease in the infirmary. And they’re expecting the officials to come on board today of all days. Rumor has it one of them’s a woman. Times really have changed. Set: The officers’ wardroom aboard the USS MECHANICA,
(AOG 6), a US Navy tanker at anchor in Kingston Harbor,
Jamaica. An open door, USL, leads to the weather deck. A
curtained door, DSR, leads to the officers’ pantry. A door, DSL,
opens on the after part of the ship. There is a speaker system called
a “21-MC”, a table covered with a green cloth, chairs, hotplate,
cups, silex of coffee, etc. The afternoon light is visible through the
weather door.

Level of Difficulty: 7/10 getting the mannerisms and collquialisms correct for the time period
