THE RAT TRAP – LAST CAST COMEDY FARCE

Lord Arthur Harringway has a tricky problem. He’s just been given twenty four hours to live. Naturally this presents somewhat of a conundrum to him. The most pressing part of the conundrum is his annoying fortune.  Because he has to leave it to somebody. But to whom?Not one of his relations is at all nice. In fact, the thought of leaving his money to any of them makes him turn in his grave (well nearly.) His relations are so odious that he devises a plan to trick them into thinking that he’s going to give all his money to them and punish them once and for all for all the trouble they’ve caused him in this large cast comedy farce.

He comes up with a cunning plan and that very night, summons all his relations to his mansion and sets them a task: Whoever can find the elusive portrait of his great aunt Agatha will be the sole heir to all his fortune. But where is the portrait? And who else knows of its existence…….

A large cast comedy farce in two acts with the best and worst of family, double crossing and mistresses.

Set: The office of Sir Arthur Harringway the third. A sombre gentleman’s room with a large desk with drawer at an angle facing the audience SR, as well as a sofa and a few smaller armchairs SL. A drinks cabinet is upstage from the sofa. There is a door right upstage leading to the house and a door left upstage leading upstairs to the bedrooms. There is a wall safe behind a large painting between the two doors. The door to an en suite WC opens SL.

Level of Difficulty: 7/10 – achieving elements of farce. A trick painting that swings up and down would need to be sturdily installed. Permission is given to modify the painting or use an alternative prop.
