Description
THE IDOL MAKER’S SON – A PLAY ABOUT GOD
Avi the idol maker’s son sits in the market, day after day selling the idols his father carves. His land has many gods, one for any occasion. But Avi is not great at this job – in fact he’s pretty terrible because he doesn’t believe. Not only in the idols carrying any power but he seriously doubts the gods themselves. This could get him into a lot of trouble and even result in him being executed by fire as punishment for his blasphemy. He has seen this happen – every year at the Festival of Moloch, unwanted children sacrificed by fire to this god. Avi can’t get this out of his head and wishes there was a god, one of kindness and caring, one who didn’t demand blood sacrifices to those who believed in him. He wants more than anything to save the lives of those unwanted children in this play about a God. But he can’t.
One night after Avi is in even more trouble, a being named Raziel appears to him in a dream. This being doesn’t give him answers, only more questions about what Avi truly believes. It seems that Avi is going to have to make a decision about his future, one that will either cost him his family or life as he knows it…
