HOLED UP –  A COMEDY ABOUT BANK ROBBERS

Hayes and Eli have robbed a bank and are trying to surreptitiously sneak out of a small Texas town. Their plan: To not draw any  attention to themselves…when Eli falls inside an abandoned well, putting himself in a deep situation he’s going to struggle to get out of in this comedy about bank robbers.

What the two idiot robbers do not know if that the town isn’t as focused on the bank robbers as they think they are. A boy named Timmy has gone missing and everyone is searching for him. When Timmy’s mother hears a voice down the well, she believes it is her lost son.  But it isn’t, it’s Eli.

Then the TV news crews get wind of the situation and to make matters even worse, the police show up. Will Hayes and Eli be able to get out of this very sticky situation or will they soon be heading directly from a well to a cell? Find out in Mark aloysius Kenneally’s new comedy, Holed Up.

Author: Mark aloysuis Kenneally

Type: Two-act play

Genre: Comedy about bank robbers

Cast: 3M,  5F

Ages of the actors: Adult aged 20 to 50 years of age

Suitable for: All ages to watch and older teens up to perform

Length: Ninety minutes

Set: A non-specific pre-ghost town in West Texas; three boarded-up storefronts side by side—though each with operable door—lining a lone road leading to an abandoned water well.
Production Note: The water well can be achieved a number of different ways, such as through the use of the trapdoor in the stage floor, by an object/set piece obstructing the sightline of the “well,” or perhaps just the illusion of a well through a change in lighting. Then again, maybe your magnificent set designer can think of an even better way, which is permitted, suggested, encouraged, and eagerly pre-approved sight-unseen by the author.

Level of difficulty: 7/10 – set design, characterization
