Description
ASCORBIC ACID FREAK – DARK COMEDY PLAY ABOUT HIV
It’s the late eighties and Mark is infected with HIV, a new supposedly lethal virus that affects the immune system. Mark, a typical gay man living with this new form of 1980’s plague, has begun to invest in all sorts of cures from taking a huge volume of ascorbic acid every day (to boost his immune system) to paying a quack doctor known as Dr Purgess to cure him with all manner of weird and wonderful drugs. Dr Purgess does not believe in the power of Ascorbic acid at all and instead arrives regularly armed with the latest cure all drug in this dark comedy play about HIV AIDS.
Mark’s housemate and companion Stephan both loves Mark and tolerates his hypochondria (which may not be unfounded) and tries to get Mark out and away from dwelling on his health all the time. Enter Wanda and Julie from Mark’s old theatre days who offer him a chance to get back on stage, something that would definitely take his mind off of everything.
But their plans may just be put on hold by Dr Purgess’ latest cure, which may be just the opposite!
