RONNIE THE FIRD – SCHOOL DRAMA SET IN 1960’S ENGLAND

Meet Ronnie Mills, a street wise Londoner, aged 16 years, whose parents were killed in a motor car accident. Ronnie is sent to Wetherley College, a prestigious public school in in the South of England by his wealthy grandfather. Ronnie develops a love for history and  The Plantagenet kings, particularly Richard III. The students pick up on Ronnie’s interest and nickname him ‘Ronnie the Fird’ (partly using his vernacular) in this school drama set in 1960’s England.

Unfortunately, Ronnie soon becomes the target of the school bully, Henry Henderson, the son of a wealthy army officer and a benefactor of the college. When Ronnie stands up to him, Henderson seeks revenge and Ronnie is involved in a series of confrontations with Henderson and his cohorts. The situation culminates in Ronnie’s friend Jamieson supposedly ‘falling’ from a balcony and  being admitted to hospital in a coma.

Unfortunately no evidence is found against the alleged bullies, who were cleverly disguised, and no evidence of an attack was found on Jamieson’s body. However, a knife discovered close to the place where Jamieson fell reveals its owner as a member of Henderson’s gang and Ronnie helps to solve the problem and expose the members of the gang.

JULEO AND ROMIET – SKIT ON ROMEO AND JULIET

Short skit on Romeo and Juliet in which the ill fated couple from the town of Blurona meet and get secretly married. All the boring bits are cut out from the ever so long play (yawn) to focus on the final scene….the DEATH SCENE. It’s the Friar’s fault really. Having persuaded Romiet to drink his potion to fake her death, he finds that Juleo is missing (oh no!) and so he sets off in search of him to let him know it is only a trick, only to leave Juleo to find the “dead” Romiet, and stab himself in the heart thinking she is dead. So far so good. However Romiet wakes up, sees the plot has gone horribly wrong and decides to consult the original Shakespearean version to find out what happened, only to die of boredom!

THE WILTING PRESS – TWENTY MINUTE PLAY ABOUT LIFE AND HELPING OTHERS

Imagine if you had a problem, one that you couldn’t find a solution to. You don’t want to ‘look for help’ at this stage, preferring to try to sort it out yourself. What if you then went for a walk in the park?  On a bench a Wanderer jovially sits with a tattered book in this twenty minute play. The book is a wilting flower press full of the wanderer’s memories.  You sit down. You talk about love, family, life, and what it means to have a conversation that matters.

Three strangers encounter the Wanderer. Burdened by their respective circumstances, each Stranger shares their time and woes with the Wanderer, hoping to move forward.  And so the Wanderer, armed with words and a wilting press, mends these disillusioned hearts with one phrase: “Care to share your troubles?”

The wanderer asks only for a flower for their press from each stranger in return.  Will we ever find out why the Wanderer helps these people? Perhaps not. But maybe that isn’t important.

SIR LYONEL AND THE LEGION OF UNLIKELY HEROES – FUNNY FANTASY SCRIPT

There’s nothing like serving a reigning queen a good dose of her own justice. Sir Lyonel the Just has seen the limits of Queen Agrivaine’s mercy (very limited) and has an unyielding desire to get back what is rightfully his. A knight can only do so much with his swordsmanship but by a stroke of good fortune Sir Lyonel happens upon a minstrel because well, everyone needs one. Sir Lyonel also stumbles upon the strongest man within quite a radius, one who if they shoot you, it will be your last breath, one with dominion over the winds, a lady with crazy fast feet and a woman who puts the cold in ‘’ice cold’’. They all join forces with the knight to get rich from the Queen’s treasury and bruise her ego too. It’s not an easy feat, for the Queen is cunning but at least there is quite a bit of fun to be had with the Princess’s betrothal on the cards in this funny fantasy script.

It’s a league distinct from any other.

THE CHRISTMAS GHOSTS – MODERN SCROOGE PLAY FOR OLDER KIDS AND TEENS

Cell phones with creepy ringtones have made the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future’s job easier; they no longer have to fly their clients around and can display the bad guys’ past, present and future in an instant. THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD – DRAMA FOR TEENS ABOUT A CAR ACCIDENT

Imagine that, in a moment of thoughtlessness your life would change for ever, and would even be over.
It’s the holidays and three teens, Danny, Ben and Rachael are going to spend the holidays at the cottage owned by Danny’s father. Danny, egged on by Ben, has driven there in his father’s car without his father’s consent. Danny also hasn’t got a driving licence or insurance in this drama for teens about a car accident.

Just a matter of a few minutes from their destination, Danny takes a bend on the wrong side of the road, resulting in another car swerving out the way to avoid them and crashing, with fatalities highly likely. In a moment of panic, Danny doesn’t stop at the scene of the accident.

When Rachael arrives at the holiday cottage on her motorbike a little later she brings news. The car they hit had one survivor, a policeman. She then produces a gun she took from the scene of the crime. What she suggests next is unthinkable.

The wrong side of the road was was one of nine scripts short-listed in the 2009 Kenneth Branagh Drama Writing Award competition.

THE PENDRAGON SACRIFICE – AWARD WINNING PLAY ABOUT MERLIN AND KING ARTHUR

So it is in the reimagining of the adventures of Merlin and his motley crew, that an evil too ghastly to imagine rears its head and must be done away with.   In this one act drama, Arthur of Legend, his brother Marcus, Gwenivere and a band that only Merlin could come up with have one task: to defeat the darkness before it has its chance of setting in in this award winning play about Merlin and King Arthur. Some will die; let them. Some will live; may they live forever…

The evil that descends into the hearts of men is both from and becomes the world. Merlin has witnessed it and can never forget it; it would be unwise for him to even try to.

This show was produced by E.A. Laney High School in October of 2014. It was our competition piece and won awards for best fight choreography, Outstanding Director, and best actress.

THE VAMPIRE DRUDGERIES – TEEN COMEDY PLAY ABOUT A REBELLIOUS VEGETARIAN VAMPIRE

In this teen comedy play, Anton, the “son” of Count Dracula and his bride, is celebrating his birthday. Of sorts…

It’s not quite a birthday. It is, essentially, the day he died and was reborn a vampire. It’s known as his “Deathday”. In ‘The Vampire Drudgeries’, a comedy in one act, we see that for every growing teenage vampire their greatest wish on their “Deathday” is freedom!  This isn’t an uncommon wish, whether you’re a  ‘so called bloodsucking monster’ or an ordinary  human teen.   The freedom to go where he wants and do what he wants.  How about eat what he wants?  Well…..Anton is part of a  coven including; zombies, witches, werewolves and even the Frankenstein monster, that has to live by ‘vegetarian’ rules, thus the freedom to truly accept his true nature would be priceless.

Luckily for Anton, the omens may just be in his favour. Unfortunately, for the rest of us that is not a good sign.

The rules became as unreal as those whom they were imposed on. Unreal, unimaginable and undead.

THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE – SOUTH AFRICAN PLAY FOR SCHOOLS

All the girls at the local girl’s high school are excited to see who’ll be the next head girl and who’ll be a prefect.  There’s the girl who thinks it should be her. Obviously. And the girl who has recently turned over a new leaf and desperately wants to be elected but who has a troubled past. And then there’s the matter of race.  Some girls feel that because last year’s head girl was white, a girl of colour should get the vote this year.    Voting for the head girl starts today and it’s going to be tricky in this South African play for schools…

“Imagine if everyone voted objectively; not because they have a grudge, or because of skin colour, or something that happened in the past. But, instead, they all vote because of the good that the girl could do. They vote for the person who shows the most honesty, integrity, fairness and impartiality. Can you imagine? Then the teachers couldn’t ignore us, because we made a good, solid choice together. That would be cool.”

The pupils all vote for the girl they think are the best choice, but in the end, do the teachers get a say?

REGICIDE – FANTASY PLAY SCRIPT ABOUT REVOLUTION. AND MURDER

There are those who hate the King and Queen. They have their reasons. Mainly, the violence, bloodshed, murder and oppression they have lived with under the monarchs rule. ‘’Those’’ like Zanna and Lucien, belong to a brotherhood that seeks to destroy the King and Queen once and for all. In Regicide, a play in three acts, their lives revolve around their resolve to bring power back to the people, their respect for the authorities who will carry out the order for the final blow and the sweet revolution of retribution that will follow the simple task that must be done quickly and quietly – kill the King and Queen’s new born son in this fantasy play script.

The logic, according to Zanna and Lucien’s Commander (Jacob) is that without an heir, the wretched kingdom will surely collapse and so Lucien and Zanna must ensure that the threat is completely annihilated. ‘’The Threat’’, merely a day or two old, who has done nothing but exist thus far, who understands nothing’ and is as harmless as can be, must be killed and it is Lucien who has volunteered to do it. But can he? … Could you?

When a child is born, it knows not what it has done.
