CLOWN CAR – A Whodunit play script in two acts

In this whodunit play script, dozens of circus clowns pile out of a car. One doesn’t. Thus begins the new murder mystery comedy by Mark Aloysius Kenneally. Artie and Nick are two detectives who thought they had seen it all. But they find out that when you’re interrogating suspects like Chuckles, Pozo, and Backwards Bobo… clowns can turn out to not only make you laugh, but also… drive you crazy. Who killed Bubbles? And why? Join Artie, Nick and Doctor Amy Harris-Talmun, the police psychiatrist, as they try desperately to solve the most bizarre, challenging, surprising and humorous murder mystery they’ve ever investigated.

CLOWN CAR, under the previous title, SUFFER FOOLS GLADLY, received its first staged reading at The Players Theatre in in Sarasota, FL. July, 2007. Author: Mark Aloysius Kenneally

Genre: Crime,Whodunit, Comedy

Type: Two act play

Number of Actors:  4M, 5F.
The roles of the clowns have been written with the intention that they all be played by one Actor and one Actress with minimal costume and wig changes to heighten the confusion and frustration as it builds throughout the play. However, it is recognized that individual producers, such as school and community theatre groups may wish to expand the cast size by having these roles be played by different actors and actresses, or have some of the roles played by actresses rather than actors or vice versa. This decision is entirely permitted by the author and is left up to the individual producers.

Ages of actors: One policeman in his thirties, and one male and female character each in their thirties. The clowns can be of any age.

Set:  Various different rooms at a police station in any “small town U.S.A.” and at the big top circus. The sets should be suggested with as simple set pieces as possible. Many of the locales can simply be suggested with lighting changes and/or with as little as a table and a few chairs as set pieces.
Level of Difficulty:  7/10 – especially if the same actor is playing multiple roles

The author will allow workshopping of the script.  Read more about playwright Mark aloysius Kenneally.

FOULWEATHER FRIEND – A TWO ACT DARK COMEDY

Foulweather Friend,  a two act dark comedy, is set in a forgotten hamlet in 1957 Vermont. The town is slowly crumbling around its last remaining living inhabitants.  A community theatre company persists in producing plays even though most of the subscription audience are in the graveyard and might, to be fair, require they be exhumed.  (At the very least they’ll have a full audience that way.)  They are in the process of rehearsing their latest play, “Foulweather Friend,” when a mysterious young playwright,  Pegeen Dalrymple, arrives in town.  But is she who she says she is? And what does she want? Family issues collide with the supernatural including Druidism in this full length play.

Author: James Kent

Genre: Dark comedy

Type: Full length play, two act dark comedy

Length:  Two and a half hours

Number of actors: Eight, 8,  5F 3M

Ages of actors: One late twenties, one late thirties, rest early fifties to early nineties

Suitable for: All ages

Level of Difficulty:  7/10 – much of the humor depends on the zany older characters

Set: In Act One we are introduced to a pond, then a community stage brimming with props and set pieces.  In Act Two the characters are only in the graveyard.  Drop dead silence is punctured by sounds of crickets, cicadas, birdsong and by lightning and thunder.

Pigeons – a two-act drama about a potential millionaire

two-act drama play script

PIGEONS – A TWO-ACT DRAMA PLAY

“Pigeons” is a two-act drama about a man named Lester, in his thirties, who is about to inherit a fortune left to him by his dead grandmother on the condition  that he is married before he is thirty five years old. Unfortunately, Lester is a recluse who dropped out of high school in his senior year after failing a course in English. He is completely obsessed with breeding a champion homing pigeon. He spends the better part of his days on the roof of his Philadelphia home with his pigeons.  Lester is supported by his sister, Sistine, a Catholic nun who supports him by bringing food everyday as otherwise he just wouldn’t cope.
Sistine decides to take the matter of Lester being married into her own hands. She brings home a single young woman who works as a clerk at the convent.

Lester has a problem in that he hasn’t kissed a female for years. We learn as the play progresses what caused this trauma in Lester’s life. The young woman’s mission is directed with the nun’s encouragement to get Lester over his phobia and become his wife.

The two-act drama play gets convoluted when a boyhood friend of Lester and his sister arrive in the second act. As the play progresses, we learn the Machiavellian reasons for the nun’s motivations.

“Pigeons,” was professionally produced at the “New World Theater” in Miami Beach a few years ago. It was also produced at several theaters in Baltimore/Annapolis as well as several dinner theaters.

DON’T SAY YOU’RE HARRY – A TWO ACT FARCE SCRIPT

In this two act, full length farce script, Snake and Harry, two professional diamond thieves gatecrash the funeral of Miss Amelia Devonport, who was the late owner of the fabulous Devonport diamonds.  Snake and Harry plan to impersonate relatives of the late Miss Devonport in order to get information on the diamonds and where they could be hidden in the old Devonport mansion. Then they plan to steal the famous stones.

Unbeknownst to Snake and Harry, two cops, Capt. Theunis van Staden and his young partner, John Smith have also gatecrashed the same funeral, and are, um, also posing as relatives. The two policemen received an ‘anonymous tip’ earlier in the week that led them to believe that two thieves, masquerading as relatives of the deceased, would crash the funeral and steal the diamonds.  Their task: to find the location of the famous stones, and use them as bait to trap the diamond thieves into revealing themselves.

It all gets rather complicated when each one of them decides to call himself ‘John Smith’ in this hilarious farce script.

A play about homophobia, as it was 60 years ago, but just as relevant as it is today.

BACKGROUND

The Boise homosexuality scandal refers to a sweeping investigation of a supposed “homosexual underground” in Boise, Idaho that started in 1955. Beginning with the arrest of three men in October 1955, the investigation broadened to encompass allegations that over 100 young men and teenage boys had been involved in sexual acts with a ring of adult homosexual men. By the time the investigation wound down in January 1957, some 1,500 people had been questioned, sixteen men faced charges, and fifteen of them were sentenced to terms ranging from probation to life in prison.”
