RUNNING OF THE AAAH! COMEDY ABOUT HOW TO SABOTAGE THE RUNNING OF THE BALLS

Every year, the famed festival of San Fermín in Pamplona, Spain culminates in the running of the bulls, and every year, hundreds of animal rights activists show up to boycott the event out of protest. Running of the—AAAH!, a new bovine comedy by Mark Aloysius Kenneally, tells a fictional alternate history of the week leading up to the first American version of the event and the catastrophic chaos that ensues when one of the most vocal opponents turns out to actually be one of the bulls slated to run.

It’s a fact that the average human is cleverer than the average bovine; hence the existence of Steak Tartare. But just once in while, a group of exceptional bovines come out of the paddock. And saves the day. The bulls are revolting, the humans are scheming – but who will get the last moo in this comedy about how to sabotage the running of the bulls?

THE IMPOSTOR – TWO-ACT COMEDY ABOUT AN ESTATE AGENT

Family and business usually don’t mix well. That, however, has yet to stop the Norths in this comedy about an estate agent. The Norths run North Real Estate Agency with Roger, the tough patriarch, at its head. Marianne, Roger and Elvira’s daughter, is in love with Val, an employee who seeks the blessing of Roger. Now, Roger’s wife is (at the same time) being pursued by Terry Tupper (another employee) whom Grandma North and Roger seem to live for… and that’s just for starters.

As complicated as things are (and probably always will be) Terry Tupper is the largest problem facing the family and its business. He seems to have some sort of agenda. Everyone BUT Roger and Grandma seem to be onto his shenanigans. Something must be done. And it must be done before Terry starts believing he has become a North.

Family first and constant vigilance!

SHADY LADIES – SITUATIONAL COMEDY SCRIPT

Jim and Jerry are best buddies. Jim’s a once successful Sitcom writer and Jerry, a Los Angeles Special Forces Police Lieutenant assigned to combat the evils of prostitution which causes him to suffer “anxiety attacks” from the stress in this situational comedy script. The cure? Watching a major sports event on TV with his buddy and a six pack.

Unfortunately for the comedy writer, his buddy could not have chosen a worse time to arrive on his doorstep. The writer is (he hopes) expecting a very attractive young lady he met on a limo coming in from the airport, who is also a writer and hoping to work her way into script writing. He extended the invitation to her (presumably) to help her “break into the business”.

Luckily she doesn’t arrive until after Jerry leaves and turns out to be a beautiful, but innocent young woman. They get to chatting about life, Jerry and his little “problem”. The writer admits that he hasn’t worked in some time due to writer’s block as he’s waiting for the inspiration for a new series. The woman suggests to Jim that a sit com based on his friend’s profession busting prostitution rings in L.A., could be hilarious.

The two friends take the idea on board and soon the series is written and they see themselves on the road to riches and fame. Inflated by his success, Jim shares the script with his young protege, as a lesson in professional script writing, only to find that she vanishes, along with his script.

But who exactly was she and have they been duped all along?

GOON TODAY – FUNNY FAIRY TALE SCRIPT

Fu (Spelled F. U. ) was sentenced to life as a goon for slapping a mouse. It’s hardly a fair sentence for slapping one mouse. A Mouse! Really? It’s also not important whether the mouse had it coming or not. (He did) Life as a goon, as a result of this brief “lapse” in judgement, is an absolute nightmare. In this comedy in one act, Fu won’t stop (and hasn’t stopped) complaining until he’s heard in this funny fairy tale script.

Luckily, his whining doesn’t fall on deaf ears this umpteenth time. The Good Fairy will pardon Fu if he asks every single goon living in the forest to leave. The goons will likely do so. It’s a deal so sweet he can hardly believe it as he sets out towards his freedom. Fu will be a bunny again. As for the Good Fairy, he will rest easy because all politicians sleep well at night… Corrupt to the core, the Good Fairy is using the forest goons to his own benefit. This leaves Fu to fight for more than just his own freedom and become the hero he was born to be.

Life as a goon is only the beginning. A fairy tale with adult type humour suitable for older teens. In the style of ”Shrek. ”

THE SUMMONING – AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION SKETCH (COMEDY HORROR)

It starts at the so called Production Meeting, with the meeting being called to order. Then suddenly from out of the crowd there erupts a pervert with naughty material on his phone (which luckily goes flat), followed by a witch spouting Latin curses, a creepy clown and a Zombie manifestation. To top it all off, the scary rental manager arrives demanding more money whilst the place erupts into chaos in this audience participation sketch.

The script relies on actors being placed within the audience and will be fun for everyone involved.

It is based on The Summoning, 2016: Haunted Attraction .

ANOTHER ANANSI – CHILDREN’S PLAY SCRIPT BASED ON A TRADITIONAL FOLK TALE

Anansi is a naughty spider. He’s also quite lazy and a trickster, preferring to trick the other animals out of their hard earned food than do the work to find his own food himself in this children’s play script.

He thinks he’s quite clever when, in the same day, he cons goat, lion, warthog and bear out of their food and settles down for a nice meal. But unbeknownst to him, the four of them have figured out what he did and together with turkey, (the brains of the outfit) they set out to con him right back!

Anansi is a traditional character that appears in both West African and Jamaican folk tales. Another Anansi and Other Animal Tales was written for a summer theater group of young actors to have fun with.

In A Smart-Alec and Two Idiots Walk into a Closet, a comedy, Connie, Lewis and Shawn find themselves locked in the school janitor’s closet and it ain’t The Chronicles of Narnia, man. Before Connie and Lewis freak out anymore, Shawn takes matters into his own hands and sprays them with some bleach, to get them to ‘’cool down’’. In one act, things go from bad to mildly worse when Lewis faints (or pretends to?) after he finds out what he was sprayed with. Connie tries to save him, a kiss doesn’t happen, they all almost die, hope is lost then found again and as they keep waiting for someone to unlock the door, they realise that freedom isn’t really free at all.

In a closet, the possibilities are endless….

SINDICATION – AMERICAN ONE ACT PLAY THAT BREAKS THE FOURTH WALL

This experimental, short comic drama is a thought-provoking, Ionescu-like political play that mars the line between Man and Media. The fourth wall becomes especially dynamic in this amusing drama, in its role as a television screen, flashing across the eager, dumbed-down faces of a seemingly typical American family waiting for dinner, on a Sunday, after church in a small town we’re all somehow familiar with. Here they sit, this seemingly typical American family, each making wild accusations about the audience—who unwittingly takes on the role of the Media in all its forms—as this family tries, like they do every Sunday, to talk to each other by talking about everything else in this American one act play that breaks the fourth wall.

Sindication was an Official Finalist at the 2018 Manhattan Downtown Urban Arts Festival.

Set: A den with couch, recliner, and rocking chair. Dressed as any typical, southern, middle-class household might appear. Though we do not see an actual TV, the lighting should have the effect of a flashing TV screen of any nondescript channels across their faces.

Level of difficulty: 8/10 – showing the detachment of the characters to the sometimes awful events they describe which mirror everyday life.

TEMP WORK – TEN MINUTE COMEDY ABOUT A SLEAZY BOSS

It’s not easy waking up to make another man’s dreams come true. For Emily she has the optimism that comes with youth so she’s trying to make the best of the job. Beverly has been at it long enough that she’s started dying slowly every minute and Alicia has been there the longest so she knows that to get through the day’s work involves a fair amount of lying in this ten minute comedy about a sleazy boss.

The women have an uphill battle and making nice with Glavin is exactly what they should not be doing. In Temp Work everyone is losing the rat race and it seems no one cares to really compete.

SEIZE THE CROWN – A COMEDY ABOUT COMMUNITY THEATRE

Had the local Theatre Group spent as much time rehearsing (in this comedy about community theatre) as they did:

- Arguing about their last performance
- What their next play should be
- If their director, Joyce, is living in luxury
- Discussing Ted (the resident clown) and why he’s even in the Group
- Taking way too may breaks
- Fawning over their newest member (Rita’s) experience and training
- Discussing Rita’s dad who’s in jail
- Contemplating bowel movements
- Mocking the name of the new play they’d be performing
- Quarrelling over the stage directions involving a love scene
- Gossiping over Tim’s operation on his, uh, member
- Arguing over who won’t be playing the gay character and
- Considering a change in leadership
……they would have had the time to really pay attention to Game of Thrones and they would have seen Rita coming (figuratively). And for that matter, they would have seen her brother Colin, coming too (literally). Tourettes or not Colin had a point to make and in a game like this, he had to make it.

Calpurnia is first and foremost married to Oliver. All the other stuff comes second. All she asks is that he is home for dinner. On time. Tonight she has prepared a lovely lasagna. And he’s late….! It’s true that she married him for his money, but in her way, she loves the routine and predictability of him coming home. Half a bottle of wine later and she’s very worried in this ten minute quirky comedy.

Oliver is attracted to his wife. Especially when she’s cross with him for being late. He’d love to be home with her right now, and not being muscled by five burly suspicious looking guys into the trunk of a car and being dragged into an opium den run by his former room mate. But there he is. And he knows why….

A quirky comedy with a smattering of romance. Because even opium dealers need a little love in their lives!

ALADDIN THE PANTOMIME

In Aladdin the pantomime, Abanazer, the wicked one seeks an infamous lamp hidden in a land far far away. Rumour has it that the lamp contains a powerful Genie who can help him rule the world. But he has no idea how to find it. Undeterred, he rings up the Slave of the Ring Hotline for help. The bimbo on the helpdesk checks her computer and informs him that yes, such a cave exists and no, he cannot enter it himself. There is only one in the whole world who can do it. His name? Aladdin. Location? Peking, China. China? That’s a bit far!

So Abanazer sets out on a journey. Aladdin, on the other side of the world is currently running for his life because he set eyes on the beautiful princess. Naturally this means he must die. But since he has no immediate plans to do this, running away seems to be the best option. Other than marrying the Princess of course. But that sort of thing doesn’t happen to young men whose mother, the Widow Twankey (currently unattached, available and let’s face it, slightly manly) owns the local laundromat. Nope. He’d have to come into a large fortune to do that.

Which is exactly what Abanazer promises him to get him to go to the cave. However, once they’re in the cave it all goes wrong. Aladdin finds the treasure and wants to send that up first, but wicked Abanazer only wants the lamp and seals Aladdin inside the cave in a rage. Leaving him with the lamp and a massive amount of treasure. The rest? Well, why don’t you have a little read and find out!

JAKE REVOLVER, FREELANCE SECRET AGENT- RADIO NOIR PLAY

In this radio noir play, private detective Jake Revolver fights against conspiracy, double cross and self-reference to uncover the killer of his own narrator. Meant to be performed as the premiere episode of a nineteen-forties live radio broadcast, complete with foley artistry and on-stage stand-up microphones, Jake Revolver, Freelance Secret Agent is a parody packed with puns, play on words, oodles of self-referential absurdity (and Beatles references?) In the tradition of Firesign Theater, Jake Revolver, Freelance Secret Agent combines slapstick, screwball humor, commercial spoofs and a murder mystery for a stylish and ridiculous tour de force comedy.

BLIND DATE – ONE ACT COMEDY FOR TWO ACTORS

In one hysterical act, a man and woman each get ready for a date with one another, while contemplating the night ahead. Both divorced, Stanley Kramer (a doctor) and Alice Adler (who works in medical research) have been set up on a blind date by their friends and it’s hardly a boring evening of preparation. We get the perspective of each suitor as they ready themselves for a night of ‘putting on’. ‘Putting on’ the charm and ‘putting on’ the confidence. Basically: Putting on a show. In “Blind Date” it’s all about the potential that comes with meeting someone new and how stressful that really is in this one act comedy for two actors.

If dying alone is the other alternative may the blind dates keep on coming!

Suitable for: Teens up to perform and all ages to watch

Length: Twenty minutes

Set: The stage is divided into two bedrooms—-one feminine, one masculine. The rooms are separated by an imaginary wall which includes a full-length mirror (empty of glass) that both characters use simultaneously. The lady’s boudoir has a dressing table with a large mirror (empty of glass) that has its back to the audience so they can watch the woman while she primps. There is a smaller, freestanding make-up mirror on the tabletop. The man’s room contains a dresser and a sink with similar mirrors. Both rooms, with articles of clothing tossed about and unmade beds, look like a flurry of activity has just occurred.

Level of difficulty: 7/10 both characters have to appear to be alone but bounce lines off the other at the same time.
