SARAH WANTS THE MOON – ONE ACT PERIOD COMEDY SCRIPTS

Sarah Bernhardt, a young actress arrives for an early morning rehearsal on the stage of the Comedie Francaise where she encounters an ex lover, a rival actress who has the leading role, a hostile director who quite simply does not like her and a faux doting mother who tries to feed her up during the proceedings.

All Sarah wants is to shine in her current role as an abandoned wife found grieving in the moonlight in a forest glade. This, according to Sarah, requires her to be bathed in moonlight (or artificial spotlight, as is the case in the theatre.) But this is not to be.
Everyone works against her for various reasons until, left alone, she decides to create an event that will resolve the situation by an extreme action. She gets what she wants – her moonlight.

Sarah wants the moon has been performed at multiple venues on 8th Avenue, New York.

SASSAFRAS CANNON – CIVIL-WAR  BLACK COMEDY PLAY

Sassafras Cannon is a civil-war black comedy play highlighting and satirizing the follies of human nature, at its base. Featuring a set of characters ranging from the offbeat Bloodworth family, holding the reigns to a chocolate manufacturing corporation like the world has never seen, a lampooning version of President Jefferson Davis, a butler who seems a bit, well, evil, and even down to investors from overseas, all whom make their appearances, the show exaggerates America’s time-tested fascination with all characters wild and strange, all while twisting history into it’s own new version, all in a style reminiscing to the days of vaudeville shows and the Ziegfeld Follies.

Did you know that cocaine, now considered a drug, was in the original mix of Coca-Cola?
Did you know that Jefferson Davis is rumored to have been fleeing from the Union at the time of his capture in his wife’s clothing?

These are all facts and rumors that the play uses to perpetuate it’s story and satire, combined with intentional historical inaccuracies and rumors. Attendance at the production is recommended for those with both a sense of humor and a grasp of history.

Review from The Charlotte Observer:

The play, like many of my other script ideas, simply came to me one day out of the blue,” Starnes said. “I wanted to do a comedy on some sort of Willy Wonka-esque character and his especially eclectic family set during the Civil War, which would appeal to young adults and adults.

“Many of the details in the show were inspired by real-life facts found during my prewriting research. However, the play is not a documentary or historically accurate, following my motto that people – when attending an event such as a play – are seeking to be entertained rather than taught.”

Audiences are advised to bring a sense of humor, and parental guidance is suggested.

In Starnes’ play, there is no “fourth wall” between the audience and the storyline. The playwright said attendees “become part of the storyline” in the Museum of the Waxhaws’ auditorium.

DEDICATIONS:

For Ryan Fay, who is going on to do the great things everyone was expecting. If it wasn’t for him, this script would have been complete 6 versions ago.

For Beth Killion, whose amount of effort put into the costumes must have bailed out the entire craft industry. Homeschoolers and old ladies rejoice.

For Anna Claire, who listened to my weekly arguments with Ryan Fay in the car, citing that we sounded like an old married couple. Accurate.

For Hoke Pittman, who has been keeping my leading male characters rightfully sassy since 2013.

For Jasper Boykin, the original black butler.

For Lucas King, who made sure that the houseboy humor couldn’t be any bawdy or funnier.

For Katherine Pierce, whose realistic onstage wine-drinking couldn’t have come from no previous real life experience.

For Noah Tepper, the original Victorian emo. His hair color changes were part of those script versions.

For Carlos Vargas, whose constant mention of his male Cinderella adaptation never ceases to silence a room.

For Kevin Brennan, who has flashed more people than even the biggest career flashers, wearing his Jefferson Davis dress.

For Jessica Boyles, who died more times than anyone can count, in the show.

For Shawn Jones, the scariest investor in the ensemble.

For Camarin Chargualaf, who said “inherited chocolate empire” correctly on both running nights.

For Savannah Jillani, who maintains to look better in my clothes than I do.

For Tommie Wall and Sandra Glenn, who supported the project all the way to the stage, hiding some of it from the arts council along the way.

Sweet romantic comedy about two middle aged widowed people who meet at a bus stop.  Herb is minding his business at the local bus stop, when he is interrupted by Hilda, who strikes up a conversation, much against Herb’s will.  Hilda notices things. For example, she notices the mirror  in the window of the local travel agents is a trick mirror, making people look thinner than they are and showing them on holiday, enjoying themselves.

She also notices that Herb is a recent widower which is great as she is a widow!

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARVES – PANTOMIME SNOW WHITE

Many years ago, in the kingdom lived a beautiful princess, Snow White who was forced to work in the castle for her stepmother, the Evil Queen Evilynn, along with Delilah Dumpling (the cook), Douglas (Delilah’s assistant) and Rose Red (The kitchen maid). One day, a handsome Prince, Prince Valliant, arrives in the kingdom in search of ‘The most beautiful lady in the land.’ Queen Evilynn likes the look of the Prince and wants to marry him but unfortunately he fancies Snow White.

That very day, the Queen’s magic mirror tells her again that Snow White is fairest in all the land, so she plots to kill her. Mandalay, the Queen’s henchman is asked to take Snow White on a picnic with the wood choppers (Horace, Doris, Norris and Boris). Mandalay can’t carry out his task and the wood choppers come up with the idea that Snow White remains behind in the forest. After saying goodbye to her friends Snow White becomes scared and faints. Fairy Good-at-heart sends her to live with the Seven Dwarves, who take Snow White into their home.

Thinking she has won, Queen Evilynn plans a big celebration but is soon told that Mandalay failed in his task and she poisons Snow White. The Prince has learned of the Queen’s evil plan and sets out along with Sir Richard, Delilah, Douglas, Rose Red and the wood choppers. The Prince gets there to find Snow White ‘dead’ but he wakes her with a kiss. The good fairy defeats Queen Evilynn, with the help of the audience, and all is well again.

This is a pantomime Snow White packed full of songs, jokes, slapstick and family entertainment.

SIX DAYS TILL SUNDAY – ONE ACT COMEDY PLAYS FOR TEENS AND AMDRAM

When two friends discover the bodies of two famous missing journalists in a mountain log cabin, miles from where the two were supposed to have disappeared, they read their diary, discovering that the journalists were in fact faking their disappearance in the Australian outback. The two had decided to hide out in the mountains and return, triumphant to reality, having narrowly escaped death in the ”outback.” But in that case, why had they died?

As the two friends read through the diary, one of them decides on a grisly plan to ‘discover’ the bodies of the famous duo, thus bringing fame and fortune to himself.

Six days till Sunday was performed at  the State of Arkansas Regional International Thespian One Act Festival  in Fayetteville, Arkansas in November and  received all superior ratings for its production of Six Days Till Sunday. The one act was selected by the adjudicators to be preformed at the Arkansas State International Thespian Festival in February of 2018.

AM I GOOD? – ONE ACT COMEDY SCRIPTS

In this one act comedy, Nora is anxiously preparing for a big date, when her next door neighbour, Mrs Henderson, arrives at the door with a family emergency and asks if she could leave her sixteen year old son, Brody with Nora for a short time. Nora says yes, of course, but what she doesn’t know is that while she was getting ready, the hem of her skirt had gotten caught in her waistband on the one side, exposing half of her bottom and her thong for Brody to see.

A lovely piece for three actors with great comic elements but also shows the development of the characters as the play progresses.

“Am I Good,” written by Jean Blasiar and directed by Sarah Albertson with a screamingly funny performance by the youthful Caber Russell as Brody and an innocently sexy performance by Ann McCormick as Nora Fisher. “

To commemorate its 20th year of offering up the “8 Tens @ Eight” festival, a smorgasbord of 10-minute plays, the Actors’ Theatre this year is produced 16 playlets, one of which was ‘Am I good?’

YOU’RE NEVER TOO OLD – THREE ACT COMEDY SCRIPT

In this witty three act comedy script, two aging brothers are reunited after a sixteen year old argument only to pick up on their sibling rivalry where it left off.

Seventy year old Max Stuart has sold the family business, an antique store in New York, and has moved to the Sunshine State with his wife of fifty-one years, Florence. Recovering from a heart attack has made Max feel old and useless, which has made him bitter and unforgiving.

As Florence tries to nurse him back to good health, Barney, Max’s fraternal twin brother, shows up sixteen million dollars richer, with a twenty-three year old bride and a business opportunity for Max.

Barney, who has always been able to talk Max into anything, convinces Max to run one of Barney’s video stores, which Barney has purchased with his millions. Max ends up humiliated when he gets talked into dressing up in a Donald Duck costume to promote some new Disney videos. This causes old hostilities to surface and the brothers are at each other again.

Barney’s problems escalate when Trixie, his bride, announces that she is pregnant. This sends Barney to the hospital in what appears to be a heart attack of his own.

Florence has been running interference throughout this whole episode and manages to get Max and Barney alone so they can work things out, once and for all. After more sibling rivalry, they both realize that brothers should be like best friends and that there is nothing more precious than family.

“You’re Never Too Old” recently received a very successful run at the Cultural Park Theater in Cape Coral, Florida.
