I have written a number of plays for play festivals, as well as read through hundreds of plays on the internet, and I realized there is gap in the publishing industry where good authors struggle to get their plays published. So I have created an online play publishing company that will publish and sell plays!

SOCK HOPS, RECORDERS AND OWL PELLETS: TIPS ON SURVIVING THE 4TH GRADE – CHILDREN’S COMEDY SCRIPT

You know what? Adults are always saying how hard life is with jobs and kids and shopping and cooking and cleaning. But do you know how hard it is to be me? To be a 4th grader? I have tons of responsibilities. I have homework. I have to play the recorder in music class. I have to learn about the body. I have to manage 4 different girlfriends! Wait what day is it today? Tuesday…I have to manage 3 different girlfriends! Oh no…I have a spelling test today.
Poop! Anyway, you get the point. Us 4th graders are much busier than adults!

Tyler is a 4th grader struggling with all your typical 4th grade problems: homework, spelling tests, and of course – girls. From gym class, to music class, and everything in between, Tyler and his friends share their essential tips on surviving 4th grade in this children’s comedy script.

PRODUCTION NOTE: The play has been staged using older teen actors. Part of the charm and humour about the production was that the older actors were playing younger kids. As it is a wordy piece it would also suit teenagers.

OOZE MONSTER – DRAMA ABOUT MENTAL ILLNESS

It came to him in a terrible dream at first. A black ooze monster that was, somehow, strangely familiar. A monstrous version of himself. Then, it never left. An evil twin. His twin. He didn’t know what to do with it. But when a mysterious group came looking for it, he chose to protect his ‘evil twin’ because he needed to find out what it all meant in this drama about mental illness.

Then he asked another person to see it. It hurt him when she saw it. Not like any other physical assault but as though it felt pain and so it hurt him.

Once there’s a monster inside, do you choose to become it? Is there even a choice? Unleashing the madness within…

FOREIGN THERAPY – TONGUE IN CHEEK POLITICAL COMEDY SCRIPT

Read all about it! Read all about it! A new island has been discovered slap bang in the middle of the sea between the USA and Russia (And let’s not forget Canada, of course) . The leaders of each powerful nation are there, vying for ownership of the island in this tongue in cheek political comedy script.

Now, in every doomed marriage there is a mediator, someone whose job it is to smooth things over, as it were. Russia and America hate one another, so his job isn’t going to be easy. Canada has come to the party too, but that wasn’t the mediator’s idea. And because it wasn’t his idea, it’s clear he isn’t going to let Canada have a say, even though he has loads of good ideas.

Now this poor mediator’s task is to get them to agree on something. As the testosterone levels in the room rise, both Russia and America are finally united in the idea that they will go to war with each other over this tiny patch of land and the mediator is finding it more and more difficult and is considering abandoning the whole thing and going for lunch instead.

Enter North Korea. He’s brought popcorn.

THE EATER OF DREAMS – SHORT DRAMA FOR TWO ACTORS

It is a true test of bravery, no? To lay your head on a pillow, close your eyes and succumb. Not knowing where you’ll end up or if you’ll wake up… In The Eater of Dreams, a short drama for two actors, Mika faces his greatest enemy or the worthiest of adversaries in Makanaka, The Eater of Dreams. Makanaka wants justice for his children, the shadows, who complained to him about Mika chasing them away. And Mika had his reasons. The shadows are an unpleasant sight, when one is contemplating your own impending slumber. Peace is needed before one’s rest. Sadly, peace is forfeited when the Eater of Dreams pays you a visit. Sometimes a life can be forfeit as well…

The Eater of Dreams, talks of equality, the common notion that children are only birthed by females, cared for by females. The Eater of Dreams, adds life to non-living beings, the light and shadows around us that we are ever so ignorant about. You wouldn’t believe the things that go on while you sleep.

Note: This play is written with Asian actors in mind, and the language used in the play follows that. However, the concept is universal and non Asian actors would also benefit from the script with local language used.

WELCOME TO PLAYWIT – PLAY FOR TEN CHILDREN IN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Izzy is an 11 year old that wants to grow up too fast. “Today,” she says, “Is the day she gets rid of her soft toys and stops being a child.” Her father, Pat, a toy inventor, has just made a breakthrough with his line of toys only to be rejected for production. Her father bestows upon her one of the prototype Teddy Bears and she quickly discards it, but that is just when the magic begins in this play for ten children in primary school.

Izzy is woken by the Teddy Bear, named Bobert, and whisked off on her jet powered bed on an adventure involving Sky Pirates, a mysterious island, crazy inhabitants, and more. Will Izzy ever make it home? Will the Pirates discover Bobert’s secret?

BLIND DATE – THE AFTERMATH – 10 MINUTE COMEDY. WHEN THE DATE’S OVER, IS IT?

Dr Stanley and Alice Adler have been on a blind date with each other and have returned to their respective apartments. Now, it is true that people who have been single for a while tend to have relatively high standards in the people they date. Film star looks and a sparkling personality to match wouldn’t go amiss at all in this 10 minute comedy!

After the initial feeling that perhaps the person they just dated wasn’t really the film star they had hoped for, and having been brought down to a rather ordinary earth with a bump, both Alice and Stanley decide that, actually, a second date wouldn’t be so bad. Pity that Alice ignored the phone when it rang earlier…

Set: The stage is divided into two bedrooms—-one feminine, one masculine. The rooms are separated by an imaginary wall which includes a full-length mirror (empty of glass) that both characters can use simultaneously. The lady’s boudoir has a dressing table with a large mirror (empty of glass) that has its back to the audience so they can watch during her evening ritual. There is a smaller, freestanding make-up mirror on the tabletop. The man’s room contains a dresser and a sink with similar mirrors. Both rooms are dark with light shining from the outer room when the bedroom door is opened.

Level of difficulty: 6/10 – a fun script with simple dialogue. It’s all about the angst!

RUNNING OF THE AAAH! COMEDY ABOUT HOW TO SABOTAGE THE RUNNING OF THE BALLS

Every year, the famed festival of San Fermín in Pamplona, Spain culminates in the running of the bulls, and every year, hundreds of animal rights activists show up to boycott the event out of protest. Running of the—AAAH!, a new bovine comedy by Mark Aloysius Kenneally, tells a fictional alternate history of the week leading up to the first American version of the event and the catastrophic chaos that ensues when one of the most vocal opponents turns out to actually be one of the bulls slated to run.

It’s a fact that the average human is cleverer than the average bovine; hence the existence of Steak Tartare. But just once in while, a group of exceptional bovines come out of the paddock. And saves the day. The bulls are revolting, the humans are scheming – but who will get the last moo in this comedy about how to sabotage the running of the bulls?

THE IMPOSTOR – TWO-ACT COMEDY ABOUT AN ESTATE AGENT

Family and business usually don’t mix well. That, however, has yet to stop the Norths in this comedy about an estate agent. The Norths run North Real Estate Agency with Roger, the tough patriarch, at its head. Marianne, Roger and Elvira’s daughter, is in love with Val, an employee who seeks the blessing of Roger. Now, Roger’s wife is (at the same time) being pursued by Terry Tupper (another employee) whom Grandma North and Roger seem to live for… and that’s just for starters.

As complicated as things are (and probably always will be) Terry Tupper is the largest problem facing the family and its business. He seems to have some sort of agenda. Everyone BUT Roger and Grandma seem to be onto his shenanigans. Something must be done. And it must be done before Terry starts believing he has become a North.

Family first and constant vigilance!

SHADY LADIES – SITUATIONAL COMEDY SCRIPT

Jim and Jerry are best buddies. Jim’s a once successful Sitcom writer and Jerry, a Los Angeles Special Forces Police Lieutenant assigned to combat the evils of prostitution which causes him to suffer “anxiety attacks” from the stress in this situational comedy script. The cure? Watching a major sports event on TV with his buddy and a six pack.

Unfortunately for the comedy writer, his buddy could not have chosen a worse time to arrive on his doorstep. The writer is (he hopes) expecting a very attractive young lady he met on a limo coming in from the airport, who is also a writer and hoping to work her way into script writing. He extended the invitation to her (presumably) to help her “break into the business”.

Luckily she doesn’t arrive until after Jerry leaves and turns out to be a beautiful, but innocent young woman. They get to chatting about life, Jerry and his little “problem”. The writer admits that he hasn’t worked in some time due to writer’s block as he’s waiting for the inspiration for a new series. The woman suggests to Jim that a sit com based on his friend’s profession busting prostitution rings in L.A., could be hilarious.

The two friends take the idea on board and soon the series is written and they see themselves on the road to riches and fame. Inflated by his success, Jim shares the script with his young protege, as a lesson in professional script writing, only to find that she vanishes, along with his script.

But who exactly was she and have they been duped all along?

Level of difficulty: 7/10 – farcical paranoia

NOTHING TO DIE FOR – A COMEDY! A WILL HE DO IT?

Tom, a writer, is facing the frustrations of writer’s block and career disappointments. His frustrations have intensified his OCD, and both, have strained Carla’s, Tom’s wife, patience. Carla, intolerant of Tom’s prolonged self-pity, has taken Brad, Tom’s old friend, as a lover. Brad, a quasi-professional actor, has been more than willing to play the part. When Tom’s writer’s block appears to give way with a burst of inspiration, Brad finds himself invited to dinner, so Tom can share his latest inspiration in this comedy A will he do it?

The lovers plan to steal some time for themselves, with the unwitting help Nancy Chapman, a new neighbor, who’s suffering a minor mental breakdown after her divorce. When Tom’s idea so closely mirrors the reality of Carla and Brad’s affair, the lovers begin a long night of oscillating back and forth between believing they been caught, and are in danger, and assuring themselves Tom’s idea is just coincidence. Brad and Carla’s histrionics swing to increasing extremes as they wrestle with wine, roll-playing, Nancy’s oblivious drunken behavior, and their growing uncertainties of what Tom’s is and isn’t capable of. The only thing they are certain of is that Tom would never get blood on the carpet.

Set: In an immaculate modest house there is a dining area adjacent to the front room. The dining is RS and the front room is LS. The front room extends past the upstage wall of the dining area. Implied beyond the dining area’s upstage wall is the front porch. The front door opens from this unseen porch into the front room. In the left stage wall is the hallway opening. In the same wall, upstage of the hallway entry, is a narrow window. In the dining area is a small table and four chairs. A kitchen hatch sits against the upstage wall of this area.

In the right stage wall is a door. In the front room there is a small couch or love seat, with two comfortable chairs on either end of a small coffee table; other furnishings, a small end table, with a drawer, and lamp.

Level of difficulty: 7/10 – building tension to the end of the play

GOON TODAY – FUNNY FAIRY TALE SCRIPT

Fu (Spelled F. U. ) was sentenced to life as a goon for slapping a mouse. It’s hardly a fair sentence for slapping one mouse. A Mouse! Really? It’s also not important whether the mouse had it coming or not. (He did) Life as a goon, as a result of this brief “lapse” in judgement, is an absolute nightmare. In this comedy in one act, Fu won’t stop (and hasn’t stopped) complaining until he’s heard in this funny fairy tale script.

Luckily, his whining doesn’t fall on deaf ears this umpteenth time. The Good Fairy will pardon Fu if he asks every single goon living in the forest to leave. The goons will likely do so. It’s a deal so sweet he can hardly believe it as he sets out towards his freedom. Fu will be a bunny again. As for the Good Fairy, he will rest easy because all politicians sleep well at night… Corrupt to the core, the Good Fairy is using the forest goons to his own benefit. This leaves Fu to fight for more than just his own freedom and become the hero he was born to be.

Life as a goon is only the beginning. A fairy tale with adult type humour suitable for older teens. In the style of ”Shrek. ”

ALL THERE IS – BRITISH ONE ACT DRAMA SCRIPT

Before Frank loses the last shreds of his mind, he plans on escaping from Cherry Blossom Residential Care Home. Before Frank does anything crazy, Jeremy, his only son, wants to get hold of his inheritance. Jeremy has some big plans with the money he believes is rightfully his. The problem is, so does Frank in this British one act drama script.

In All There Is, Jeremy wants access to the money his father has locked away in order to move him to a nicer senior residence. In return, Frank’s son needs five grand to get his band started up again. Wonky or not, old or young, when it comes to money it’s never just about the money. Frank is wary. How could he not be? Between father and son it’s never linear. A poor approach to give and take is the result of a strained relationship where a common understanding has never existed.

Like father, like son….

Set: The Cherry Blossom Residential Care Home in Peckham, South East London. Frank’s room. Decorated innocuously with a view out onto a garden. Two armchairs, an imposing bureau, a coffee table, a single bed, various medical contraptions, a record player, a TV, a phone. On the wall is a black and white poster of Charlie Parker and a Malay wavy-bladed ceremonial dagger over the bureau.

Level of difficulty: 7/10 – the interaction between the two characters should build

THE SUMMONING – AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION SKETCH (COMEDY HORROR)

It starts at the so called Production Meeting, with the meeting being called to order. Then suddenly from out of the crowd there erupts a pervert with naughty material on his phone (which luckily goes flat), followed by a witch spouting Latin curses, a creepy clown and a Zombie manifestation. To top it all off, the scary rental manager arrives demanding more money whilst the place erupts into chaos in this audience participation sketch.

The script relies on actors being placed within the audience and will be fun for everyone involved.

It is based on The Summoning, 2016: Haunted Attraction .

ON THE REBOUND – DRAMA SCRIPT FOR THE OVER SIXTIES

When you’re 77 years old, could lose a few pounds and have no companions except for your 69 year old caregiver whom you have no romantic inclination towards, it’s all about possibilities in this drama script for the over sixties. For Will, it’s the prospect of his journey nearing its end that drives him into the arms of Joan, whom until recently, he found annoying.

Tom, at first, encourages the twosome to get to know each other better. Joan comes in handy when Tom is out trying to find a life of his own. But when Will decides he wants Joan to move in, Tom is outraged. After all he’s done for the old fart! It’s ridiculous and at his age! Where does it leave Tom? Right where he began and as for Will, still holding out for possibilities.

Well – if you’re living, you might as well be still alive.

ANOTHER ANANSI – CHILDREN’S PLAY SCRIPT BASED ON A TRADITIONAL FOLK TALE

Anansi is a naughty spider. He’s also quite lazy and a trickster, preferring to trick the other animals out of their hard earned food than do the work to find his own food himself in this children’s play script.

He thinks he’s quite clever when, in the same day, he cons goat, lion, warthog and bear out of their food and settles down for a nice meal. But unbeknownst to him, the four of them have figured out what he did and together with turkey, (the brains of the outfit) they set out to con him right back!

Anansi is a traditional character that appears in both West African and Jamaican folk tales. Another Anansi and Other Animal Tales was written for a summer theater group of young actors to have fun with.
