STYLE – ONE ACT DRAMA ABOUT FACTORY WORKERS ON THE LINE

Very much in the style of “Waiting for Godot,” this one act drama about factory workers is about 6 men employed in the shipping room of a coat factory who spend their time arguing, eating, sleeping, playing the Jackpot and shooting craps rather than working.

Their boss, Irving, tries to get them to work, even resorting to letters of warning but to no avail.  Then Irving comes in, and gives them the news – the factory’s days are numbered and that they will soon be out of work. Every man there knows that this job is not what he wanted to do with his life, and they all have dreams of doing something better. But as time passes, the dreams became less real and the day to day hopelessness set in.

The play accurately portrays the despair, lost hopes and defiance of marginalized workers. The people we, as society need and see, but never think of.

STYLE, originally titled RACK, was first presented by The Minnesota Ensemble Theatre of Minneapolis in 1973
